Before Mary Was Abraham, Before Abraham, Jesus Was Already "I Am"

It's really something to consider how Roman Catholics may knowingly or unknowingly exalt Mary beyond what she deserves. Worse, some of them have already gone as far as to accuse Baptists and Protestants of hating Mary when they don't. After I got saved, I soon started feeling that praying to Mary or having a devotion to her must be wrong. One verse I found that always made think of the following:

John 8:58 - I am telling you the truth,” Jesus replied. “Before Abraham was born, ‘I Am’. (GNT)

What we read here is that Jesus Christ already declared that before Abraham was born, He was. Reading through the Old Testament will make you realize that the Holy Trinity was already there. Genesis 1 already had God saying, "Let Us make man in Our image." Just who is God the Father talking to? Angels or the Son and the Spirit? Obviously, God the Father was talking to the Son and the Spirit. Jesus before His incarnation already appeared before Abraham at Mamre, as the special Angel of the LORD who was no ordinary angel, the Captain of the LORD's host, and we know that Jesus is God. John 1 further verifies that the Word was with God and the Word was God. In short, Jesus the Word is God and that puts Him above Abraham, Mary, or just anyone

Then we check the genealogy of blessed Mary, His beloved earthly mother. We can see her genealogy in Luke 3 where Heli is listed as Joseph's "father" (actually father-in-law). We can discover that Mary indeed was biologically the seed of David. We can trace all the way back from Heli up to David and below David is Nathan. Nathan is listed as another son of David and Bathsheba, named after the prophet that rebuked and led David to repentance. You can see that Mary herself was a descendant of Abraham down to David down to Nathan. Who came first? Mary or Abraham? Obviously, Abraham came before Mary, and before Abraham was Jesus.

What we need to realize that Mary herself is subjected to Jesus. Though Mary is the biological mother of our Lord - it's in purely human relation. Mary herself is a humble, obedient woman who was willing to be the handmaid of the LORD, a good mother to model, my favorite subject on mother's day, and I have never found a mother as godly as she is in the pages of the Scripture. Yet, Catholics have hyper-elevated her beyond her role as that humble woman who was no longer mentioned after Acts 2. After Acts 2, the pages of the New Testament are silent on this godly woman. Calling Mary the mother of God is a complete affront as if God is a quartet and not a Trinity. Mary became Jesus' mother in his flesh but towards eternity - she submits to Him as Lord.

How is that possible? Consider Mary's ancestor David in Psalm 110:1. It was questioned in Matthew 22:45 and Luke 20:42 on how can David have Jesus as both his Son and Lord? The same way Mary shares that wonderful, unique relationship. Mary was called "woman" throughout the ministry. Mary was fully humble to know that Jesus was her Son in the flesh and her Lord at the same time. It's the same thing that David was biologically Jesus many times great grandfather (via Mary) but he knew that the Son of God was always the eternal Son of God. Jesus was already there at eternity past making Mary but another sinner saved by grace. The Mary of the Bible made no such claims about herself. Rather. calling Mary as a co-mediator, mother of God, and whatever titles elevate her above what she truly is, is definitely idolatry that she would outright reject. Instead, Mary pointed others to Jesus as she said in John 2:5 to do whatever Jesus tells them to do.
